A GI Doc’s “7-Food Toolkit” for a Healthier Liver

A specialist in digestion and nutrition has shared a “7-food toolkit” for building a healthier liver. These fruits and vegetables are packed with specific compounds that support everything from gut health to fat metabolism.
A key “tool” in this kit is cranberries. The expert notes they are essential for the gut-liver axis, as their polyphenols act as prebiotics for gut bacteria. A “healthier gut is linked to a healthier liver.”
Another essential tool is beetroot. This vegetable provides two functions: its nitrates support blood flow, and its betaine “helps the liver process and move fat out of liver cells.”
The toolkit also includes tools for metabolic health. Raspberries (fiber and anthocyanins) and apples with cinnamon (pectin and other compounds) help regulate blood sugar, lipids, and insulin sensitivity.
Other tools include pomegranates, which are rich in polyphenols to calm inflammation, and watermelon with lime, to further support blood flow. Finally, strawberries with 70% dark chocolate are included for their flavanols, which support blood vessel health.
