US Treasury Unveils Innovative $1 Coin Honoring Donald Trump

by admin477351

The United States Mint has commenced the production of a special commemorative $1 coin featuring President Donald Trump, as announced by the US Treasury Department. This new coin is part of the celebrations for the 250th anniversary of the United States, with its release slated for the fall. The final design, approved earlier this year, includes some modifications from the initial concept, notably opting for a gold-colored finish rather than being made from solid gold.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has stated that the commemorative coin is intended to pay tribute to America’s heritage of liberty and patriotism. According to Bessent, it celebrates the nation’s core values and its steadfast commitment to freedom. The obverse of the coin displays a portrait of Trump, accompanied by the word “LIBERTY,” the dates “1776–2026,” and the phrase “IN GOD WE TRUST.”

On the reverse side, the coin features the iconic bald eagle emblem from the Great Seal of the United States, along with the national motto “E PLURIBUS UNUM.” This design choice underscores the traditional symbols associated with American identity and unity.

The announcement of this coin has sparked criticism, as federal law typically prohibits living presidents from being depicted on US currency. Despite this, Treasury officials assert that the secretary holds the authority to approve commemorative coin issues under specific circumstances, which they argue applies in this case.
