Grokipedia: Musk’s AI Encyclopedia Criticized for Factual Errors on AIDS

by admin477351

Elon Musk’s new AI encyclopedia, Grokipedia, is facing immediate and harsh criticism for containing blatant factual errors. Journalists reviewing the newly launched platform have pointed to a specific entry that falsely claims pornography made the Aids epidemic worse.
This significant error casts serious doubt on the reliability of the encyclopedia’s “fact-checking” mechanism, which is not a team of human experts but Musk’s own AI chatbot, Grok. Musk has launched this platform as a right-wing rival to Wikipedia, which uses a transparent human volunteer-editing process.
Musk, who has long attacked Wikipedia and “mainstream media,” intends for Grokipedia to align with his conservative views. This bias is also on full display. The entry for the January 6 Capitol riot, for example, gives credence to the disproven lie of “widespread claims of voting irregularities.”
The Jan. 6 entry also reframes the violent attack as a potential “legitimate expression of grievances,” a narrative pushed by allies of Donald Trump. The entry minimizes Trump’s own role in inciting the riot.
The project was suggested to Musk by David Sacks, a former Trump administration official. This launch comes after Musk’s own brief stint in Trump’s second presidency and an August Gallup poll that named him the most disliked public figure in the U.S.
